On behalf of the Heiva 'Ai 'Ai staff and myself, Mauruuru roa for your time, patience and understanding. This has been a learning experience for everyone as we overcome the challenges, move forward and plan for the future.

We will continue to perpetuate our Tahitian culture 'Ori and language through dancing and music. The event was successful in gathering people.

Miss Heiva 'Ai 'Ai Pageant canceled

Due to various reasons, the Miss Heiva 'Ai 'Ai Pageant has been canceled. The producers were holding out hope that all the many facets of the event would have worked but in the end, it was decided that for the betterment of the overall event, that the pageant be moved to next year. The Heiva 'Ai 'Ai I Honolulu solo and group competition will go on as scheduled.

Event activities take place Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the St. Louis High School Gymnasium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Miss Heiva 'Ai 'Ai

Young single women between the ages of 18-25 are invited to compete in the 1st annual Miss Heiva 'Ai 'Ai. The theme of the pageant is "Tiare Huru Rau" (Variety of Flowers). Contestants will be judged on costume, talent, and evening gown. Participants will be judged on pronunciation, originality, personality, elegance, poise, creativity, neatness, appearance, and choreography.

Registration fee for the pageant is $50. The event will be accepting only 10 entries on a first come first served basis.

Applications for Heiva 'Ai 'Ai i Honolulu 2010 are now available online. The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Saint Louis High School Gymnasium. Activities will take place all day starting at 9:00 am. Soloists will compete for individual and age group titles. Groups will compete in an ahuroa competition.

Soloist and group guidelines are included in the applications. Solo vahine are required to perform 7 basic steps fa’arapu, varu, tifene, afata, tairitamau, pai pai, and tahapehape. Solo tane are required to perform 4 basic steps pa’oti, ou’a ‘ofati, horo, and tu’e. Entry fee is $35 per dancer.

The ahuroa/ahupurotu group competition will be judged on group unity, technique
and timing, group personality, stage presence, choreography, costume, fact sheet interpretation and use of language pronunciation and accompaniment. Group entry fee is $150.

All soloist and group applications are due before event. Soloists registering the day of the event will be required to pay late fee.

Additional information about the activities including the Tamure Ball, which will close the event, will be forthcoming.

Welcome to the 1st Annual Heiva ‘Ai ‘Ai Solo Competition, Miss Heiva ‘Ai ‘Ai Pageant, and Ahuroa or Ahupurotu Group Competition.
